The Southern Counties Staffordshire Bull Terrier Society was founded in 1937 and was the first Breed Club to Challenge Certificates in the breed. Many other first's for the soceity followed, notavly handling classes, eye testings sessions at shows whish are still being held on a regular basis and most recently being chosen by the Kennel Club to host DNA profiling to prove parentage. The aims of the Society which are included in our rules, were and still are: "To promote all things found to be desirable in the intersts of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier as a Breed in Southern Counties of England by encouraging owners and breeder to attain and maintain a high standard in the by organising shows and activities to be found desirableor necessary". By joining thr Society all Members receive regugular newsletters, schedules for all Society Showsand details of all other events that the Society is holding. The Society also publishes The Stafford Magazine which is available and is the foremost magazine for the Stafford enthusiat and has subscribers worldwide. Each issue is filled with news, views and articles relating to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Members receive a small discount when subscribing tothis publication. The Society operates a Memebrs Puppy Register, a service which puts prospective owners in contact with caring breeders who are Members of the Society and who have agreed to abide by the Members Code of Ethics. The Society is also an active Memebr of the The SBT Breed Council Of Great Britian & Northern Irelands which looks after the interests of all Staffordshire Bull Terriers. The Society was one of the first clubs to adopt a Code of Ethics, a a copy can be found on this website, and we expect all Members to abide by the code thus promoting responsible ownership which is becoming increasingly important.
